I'm sure that most of you build your own sets but I am posting this for mainly the new LFS drivers who need to explore some ready made setups ;)

I also use this site somtimes for a base set for me to build on, personalise and improve.
Mainly for gear ratios and wing settings. Its also a good cross reference to see if your heading in the right direction in your set building. :ok2:

Since my new installation of lfs I have decided not to use them, just learn more about my sets starting from scratch.
But I have learn a lot from some of those great sets! :ok2:

something i found helpful is a collaboration setup. i have taken parts of this and parts of that from different fast setups and created a setup that suits my own driving style. very fast and still very sticky. however im having some issues with figuring out what parts of the setup feel right and which ones dont. if anyone has any tips for making adjustments i would love some more input. i got my personal setup to 1.15.29 but wont go any faster without becoming unstable exiting the turns.

I always try to achieve balance, but I am not an hotlapper, I also tend to quali with my race set.
For the set it is a question of test and driving style, I've read you have some real life racing experience, so you will probably manage WHPA which will show you what effect the settings have on the handling. Careful you need to copy your setup file to a new folder before editing it with WHPA: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=481

To go really fast the setup will probably get unstable to some extend, but that's where the driver takes over and adapt...
With cars like TBO in long race we often use lots of over steer to manage the tires better, here again you have to change the driving style a bit...
We also do lots of endurance and there the drivers have to use the same set, so it is again to the drivers adapt to a compromise...

It is not all to the setup, you need both driver and car to be good

So be flexible and make notes about what you like for each cars (oversteer, understeer, soft or hard brakes......), they will help you when you need to setup the car.
Use the replay analyser ( viewtopic.php?f=35&t=492 ) ( I mostly use it make sure I have enough suspension clearance), you can also compare your lap with the wr lap (you can download them on lfs world)....

When you have s2, join us when we train/race and we'll let you try our sets....

well i should finally have s2 this afternoon :) so i will definately be looking for some new competition.

as for the whpa i have no idea what that is lol . my racing experience is with gokarts. but not your state fair gokarts lol mine had a gixxer 300 turbocharged motor on the back and a fiberglass indycar frame. these gokarts will break 120mph in about a city block. so the experienc i have out of it is more towards the familiarity with close quarters driving and not so much with the setups.

however i have done some drifting in real cars but nothing professional

Im just beginning to actually modify my setups, until now i just downloaded them from the links above..

I have red some setup guides but i'm still having some hard time with all the rebound dampers and such...and the worst is i cant really even seem to find any difference from my modifications.. they all drive almost like same to me :D (Unless i soften/harden the springs in general alot)

And i dont particularly even like testing the sets over and over again, it just gets so... frustrating after a while ;) I leave it for the pro's : Wink :

it all depends on how you want the car to drive. its not easy to explain but i can help you with it if you want. is there a voice server that you guys use. it would make explaining it so much easier lol

Yes there was, atleast during the 24h race ( : Evil : ) i was in it.

But only mic i have at the moment is the one in my laptop, which is very very weak, and im getting some packet-loss with my wireless net sometimes so it might be a little hard to understand me while in TS ;) (Plus my weird Finglish accent as well :P )

Anyways, its enough for me to know that softening front springs it gives more oversteer and hardening them makes more understeer, i suppose its opposite in the back springs too ;)

Plus, i dont want to waste your time trying to teach bonehead like me

what i did with my setup is i started with the stickiest setup i could find (most grip and oversteer) then i slowly added features from other fast setups i could find while reducing the grip as little as possible each time untill i could barely keep it straight. this allows you to tune the car to YOUR limits and you can push it as hard as your comfortable with.

@Postonis: Yeah I see it that way, too.

Always look for a good base setup that's stable and that you can handle with ease. Then change it little by little, not everything at once because it isn't possible anymore to analyze what change did the car feel better or worse, to match your driving style. Creating/developing a carsetup is always a progress of failure and success. Once you get into it, it's quite easy to spot the part of the setup which need to be optimized. But without trying you won't win anything, concenerning to understand a setup. That's my personal opinion on this topic, maybe it could help you.
