This post is for anyone who for some reason wants to join the AirAttack team/community of people. To get some background information please read this post first. I'll try to summarize here some hard and soft facts that people need to comply with to be acceptable.

General outlines

AA is basically a demo team, most of the action happens at our demo servers, usually in sprint races, because that's what LFS people want. We'd like to have nice atmosphere on the servers. Swearing is bad, endless disputes about minor mistakes too. You should understand they are demo servers with popularity depending on average and new people. So we need to support such people, not the few very fast ones (which often really cannot race), because they go where the average people are, and not the other way round.

We'd like to have popular demo servers. Without this there'll be no AA team. And to have popular servers a delicate balance between restrictions and allowances is necessary. Too many allowances attract crashers. Too many restrictions deter people interested in standard racing. After many many hours, days, weeks, and months spent watching the servers and adapting to needs this balance is, I think, currently achieved. No doubt it will require more changes in the future.

Behavior

The above basically sets the "soft" requirements for joining AirAttack. Every member has additional rights, the ability to kick/ban other people. But on average, believe it or not, people do not want to be over-protected. Too many kicks/bans and too much discussions/disputes are bad things. Limited admins (team members, a.k.a. limads) must always stay calm. Obvious crasher = ban without discussion. Learner = try helping advice, kick/ban only when causing serious troubles.

AA team members must be friendly to everyone interested in racing, especially towards other team members. Saying hi/bye is part of good behavior and it doesn't matter if anyone responds. Showing concern with a sad face when someone crashes creates much better atmosphere than laughing about it. Some people do not take this approach too well. Generally, AA members needs to be seen as nice and helpful people, then other people will keep coming back.

Statistics

We do not accept people with less than 1000 laps done on AA servers (shown by !pi command), 2000 is the preferred count. This number shows the driver is really interested and makes it probable he's known among current members. Personal best time is not important, but obviously it should be something reasonable, in the "good lap" category. The safety rating is on the other hand quite important, and while it depends on the server type, certainly it should be over 75%, 80% would be the preferred value.

It is not good to join a team and then disappear for many months. Team members need to be reasonably active, both on servers and in forum. They should preferably race on AA servers to bring other people in and keep the servers alive. Also team members should try to attend announced events, because that's where they can meet other people. No payment is required, but small donations (say 5 € a year or even less) are welcome.

Obligations

There are no special obligations going above the ones explained, except members should use use team colors in nicknames and team car skins. Prolonged inactivity or disregard of the above mentioned expectations could lead to revoking of the team membership and rights.

Members may only do standard demo races, but anyone looking for more can be as much active as he feels. You can help in building/improving the team, creating and updating AA skins, translating Airio user messages to new languages, organizing special races or series, anything else you can think of (e.g. developing setups).

If you think you meet the outlined conditions, please register here in the forum and write a response with your application (username, preferred cars, why you'd like to join, how much you race, etc.). Your membership application would be discussed among team members and the outcome posted back.

Well I submitted a little while an application to join AirAttack. I've knowingly been racing on AirAttack since the summer of 2009, so for about a year now. I started off doing 1:18's and over the year I have gotten faster into the upper 1:13's, and if it was not for many of the racers on the server, Cata, Gincarl, and another named Imol or something like that :), I would not be anywhere near the speed I am at today.

In the first few days on the server I got into an accident with a limad and got kicked from the server and kicked again when I rejoined, after that I started looking at AirAttack forums and responded about the incident. A little while longer I was given limad privileges and I've taken a liking to the server, using my limad privileges first passively keeping myself safe, then actively using it to protect both the fun of the race and the new comers.

I've found that most people on the server assume because you are faster that everyone should bow to your will but its just not that much fun. When the slower 1:15's and 1:16's get in-front of a 1:13 and faster racer they get excited, to them it is like beating Michael Schumacher (at least thats how i viewed it), and when they are really slow I feel the urge to help them out at time.

I try to give back what was given to me, I share all the setups I was given from Cata, Gincarl, and Imol. They taught me and so I figure why not teach others. I have spent hours teaching some of the slower racers and have watched some start blowing my own pb out of the water. This is actually the most fun is when you get to teach someone else to be fast and see them grow up, I guess that would be like having a kid.

Currently my Rating is a bit low at 71%, too much starting a racing getting lost in the first corner and then just spectating. I do my best to avoid any accidents and I find it quite fun at times dodging the slower cars, except in turn 1 which is always hectic :).

To sum all of this up, I'm just trying to say I have found a community in LFS thats fun and has some great people in it and I personally have been enjoying taking an active role in it, and personally would like to take it further at times.

As I had posted on EQWorry's other post I am more then willing to help out with the maintenance of Airo as I am an experienced software engineer, personally going into Tools Programming for video games (currently looking at the daunting task of integrating speedtree into an existing engine that I did not make) so any spare time i have I would love to help out maintain improve or even just re-factor airo's code to make it easier to read and document it out for future developers.

OH and heres my app

CptCheerios
I race Open wheels Typically FBM and FOX, and GTR cars, I like the FZ50 GTR, and occasionally race on the AMG server.

I pretty much covered why I want to join above, help out the server and help out the racers and hopefully help the community grow more.

I race in between programming, studying, sleep and Eve online. I find at times racing is kind of relaxing, although quite the opposite as well.

Still I want to meet more of the racers and hopefully learn more about racing and setups from others.

See you guys on the track.

*edit : Its about as long as EQW's post :)

Hi and welcome!

Nice application! :ok2:

Note that EQ Worry is leaving today for 2,5 weeks holidays, I have warned him about your post, but he is pretty busy with the family, so be patient and don't expect a quick answer...

Everyone calls me Fram, I am the Ready2Roll slave (leader).
Racing for AA also means you'll be able to race with Genuine Racing, we do all kinds of racing, so I am sure you'll find all you are looking for here!

See you on the track, happy racing!

i would love to be considered for the AA team.

i have an extensive background in racing on and offline (real cars) i try to be as cautious as possible when it comes to driving in close proximity to others. its always a thrill to be moving at 200mph but to be moving that fast less than 5 feet from someone else is the ONLY way to push yourself to faster times and more prescise driving.

currently i am still adapting my setup but since i started playing a few weeks ago i managed to get my best time up to 1.15.29 and i get consistently close to it more often every day.

i also noticed that AA is a flight sim group as well. which sims are you on? i have cfs3 and flight sim x. both of which i can fly very well however i am not fluent in the proper radio chatter with towers.

i have graphics software for making paint schemes for cars. including all of the default blank skins to work with.
i also have macromedia flash mx and the skills to use it.

however in both of these i lack a creativeness to be able to make something on my own. i can however make something match a description i am givin. so if you have the idea i can make it happen.

sorry if my application is a little bland. im not too good with words either :) but i try.

i hope to see you all on the track

Patience is a virtue. Just like racing, if you act too fast you will be too close and then you have to slow down for the other racer on the turn. If you wait and pace yourself you can hold back for a few yards and carry more speed through the turn and pass the other guy after the exit on the straight.

True, Captain :) , but still sorry, Nilsson :( , for this long delay in response. You certainly have the stats required and I also know your name from watching the FBM servers. Problem is that when I was asking around, none of the AA people I talked to could remember you and give a recommendation. Can you please point me to the AA people that would hopefully agree with your application?

Also please assess reasonably your chances for regular racing at AA servers. It need not be every day for hours, but on the other hand giving the extended privileges to someone connecting for 10 minutes a week is useless. AA people need to be in touch with the community, they need to know other regular and new drivers to properly manage the servers. And that requires time online (or on Remote, as I do it).

Postosis, please under what username (registered) you're driving on the AA servers? I can't seem to find you. You should also know there are minimum requirements for AA application: 2000+ laps, 1000+ points, 80%+ rating... You'll see all these data in !pi...
